If you’re looking for a short break or quick stop in Italy, you may want to consider the small town of Aurelia. With fewer attractions and accommodations than some of its larger neighboring cities, Aurelia is the perfect spot to grab a bite and relax before continuing on your journey.

Aurelia Vatican Apartments

The Aurelia Vatican Apartments in Aurelia are ideally located near the Vatican, making it a convenient place to stay when visiting the Holy See. The hotel offers 18 air-conditioned apartments with kitchens and satellite LCD TVs. There is also free Wi-Fi throughout the property. The hotel also offers concierge services, as well as a babysitting/childcare service upon request. Guests can also take advantage of the property’s car/town car service. However, there is no restaurant on-site.

The apartments are clean, spacious, and well-equipped, but are not suited to a hurried traveler. However, they are in a good location close to the Vatican wall and the local shops, although there is no supermarket close to the hotel on weekends or holidays. We had a balcony facing an internal courtyard, containing a few dead potplants. The beds in the rooms were double sized but the bathroom was tiny and the shower was small. The power points were also suspect. The hotel is within walking distance of the train station, and it has a bus service.

The apartment complex was recently renovated. The lobby is decorated with modern decor, with a glass reception desk with blue under-lighting. There are also vases of fresh flowers throughout the lobby and large canvas prints of Italian scenery. The property is popular with business travelers and families who want space for their extended stays. There are also many family units available, and the hotel provides high chairs, cribs, and extra beds to accommodate families with children.

Rensselaer Russell House Museum

If you’re interested in the history of the area, you’ll want to visit the Rensselaer Russell House Museum. This 19th-century home, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is one of the oldest homes in Black Hawk County. Its interior features original furnishings and tells the story of life for the Russell family in Victorian Waterloo.

The house was built in the 1850s in the Italianate style by Nathaniel Russell. The house features a three-story cantilevered flying staircase. Visitors will also be able to see the many other architectural features of the home.

Grotta Aurelia beach

This partially rocky, partly sandy beach is perfect for a relaxing holiday. The water temperature is a beautiful blue, and there are plenty of sun loungers for those who want to lay out in the sun. There is no natural shade, but the beach is well attended by a lifeguard during high season.

Grotta Aurelia beach is close to the town of Sapori di Riva, and is home to four restaurants and a bar. The area is also home to 120 guest rooms and apartments. The most convenient way to access Grotta Aurelia is to drive along the ancient coastal Via Aurelia.
