Navarro Mills Lake
Navarro Mills Lake is located in Navarro County, Texas. It offers great angling for catfish and white crappie, but angling for sunfish and largemouth bass is difficult due to the turbid water. The upper lake area is heavily inundated with timber. The lake’s shallow areas can be difficult to access during low water periods because of siltation from the watershed. There is some vegetation in the creeks that enter the north side of the lake, and aquatic plants provide marginal fringe during high water periods. Navarro Mills Lake is near Wolf Creek Park.
The cemetery is accessible via the FM Rd. 744 and FM Rd. 55, the two roads intersect at Dresden. The cemetery is located in a wooded area, several miles southwest of Pleasant Grove Community, in a large pasture owned by the Monroe family. It is located off FM Rd. 667, approximately a mile south of Kerens, and about one-half mile west of Retreat on FM Rd. 309.
Pearce Museum at Navarro College
The Pearce Museum at Navarro College is the place to visit if you want to see a unique collection of artifacts. The museum houses an extensive collection of Civil War letters, as well as a gallery dedicated to Western art. The collection includes more than 15,000 pieces. It’s also home to the Hunters and Gatherers of the Blackland Prairie, which features 44,000 prehistoric artifacts.

His cousins, including the famous football player Ronald Hamrick, are also survivors of Paul.
The community was settled in the 1850s by Hugh and Washington Ingram. The town eventually grew to have a post office and three general stores. In the 1870s, Kerens had a population of 75. By the end of the century, the population had grown to 200. However, the Great Depression and WWII struck the area hard. It also closed the schools in Kerens.
East Texas Arboretum and Botanical Society
The East Texas Arboretum and Botancal Society is a botanical garden and arboretum located in Athens, Texas. The site includes historical buildings and is open daily. It is a not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to preserving the region’s natural beauty.
The site is 100 acres of native Texas land with formal gardens, historic buildings, and a wooded nature area. The grounds also include more than two miles of naturalistic hiking trails. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see the Wofford House Museum, a historic dog-trot style home that was moved to the site in 2001. Today, the house serves as a museum interpreting pioneer life in the area.
Located in Athens, Texas, the East Texas Arboretum and BotanICAL Society offers 100 acres of natural beauty. Visitors will enjoy two miles of woodland trails, spring-fed streams, and a 115-foot suspension bridge. There is also a playground for children and the site is open Monday through Sunday.
