Jimmy John’s Field

Western Illinois University Art Gallery

The Western Illinois University Art Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition honoring the late Tate Lindahl. The Tate Lindahl Collection will be on display from August 29 through October 13, 2022. The opening reception will take place on Sept. 1, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Lindahl, who passed away in 2010, made generous bequests to the university and the art gallery. His contributions include works by Rembrandt, Georges Rouault, and Gatja Helgart “G.H.” Rothe. Also on display is a selection of works by Francisco Goya.

The Western Illinois University Art Gallery presents changing exhibitions throughout the academic year to introduce students and the surrounding community to different art forms. The university also encourages visual artists to submit proposals for exhibits. Accepted artists are provided with a modest stipend. In addition, travel expenses may be reimbursed. Selected artists may also be awarded honoraria.

The Western Illinois University Art Gallery has organized an exhibition to celebrate the artists who participated in the Federal Art Project (FAP) program in the 1930s. The exhibition features works by artists who were active in Chicago’s progressive urban arts community, including Archibald J. Motley, Jr., Aaron Bohrod, and Romolo Roberti. Additionally, the exhibition features works by numerous African-American and women artists. These artists represent an important part of the WIU Art Gallery’s FAP collection.

The University Art Gallery is the primary venue for original art at the university. It regularly presents eight to ten exhibitions during the academic year. The schedule includes solo and group exhibitions by professional artists, faculty-curated exhibitions, and collection-based exhibitions.
