Maruca’s Tomato Pies
The classic flavor of Maruca’s Tomato Pies is instantly recognizable. The company was started in 1950 in Trenton, NJ by four brothers. Dominick, Joseph, and Anthony Maruca were all born in Trenton. In addition to the traditional tomato pie, they also offer gluten-free and vegetarian options.
The family-owned business specializes in Trenton-style tomato pies, made with locally-grown Jersey tomato sauce. It has been serving up these pies since the 1950’s, when it was first established along the Seaside boardwalk. It quickly became known as the “Best Pizza on the Boards.” The family that owns and operates the restaurant still runs it.
The family is still in business today, with a location on the boardwalk between Porter Avenue and Farragut Avenue. The business has grown over the years, and Joseph Maruca, the owner, still returns to the boardwalk every day. He’s serious about his pizza – and is even secretive about the ingredients that go into each slice.
