Fox Park bloom, and there are plenty of places to camp along the lake. The park also offers a fishing dock, two boat ramps, and a swimming beach.
Comanche Bluff Trail
Comanche Bluff Trail is a popular hiking trail near Granger Lake. The trail heads are located at Taylor Park on the lake or off County Road 496. Both of these trailheads offer stunning views of Granger Lake. The trail is not very difficult, and it’s easy to get started.
The Comanche Bluff Trail loops around the lake and continues along the south side of the lake. The trail also has restrooms, playground equipment, and a boat dock. There are 48 campground sites with water hookups and flush toilets. Camping is permitted during certain times of the year.
The trail doesn’t reach the cliff that is associated with Comanche Bluff, but it does cross a series of bluffs along the lake’s south shore. It also passes over sloughs, although they are typically bridged. The trail also passes through prairie with views of the lake.
Fishing is another popular activity at Granger Lake. The four thousand acre lake contains numerous species of fish. The most popular sportfish are crappie and channel catfish. Largemouth bass and white bass are less common but prized by competitive anglers. There are many spots to fish for these fish, including the shoreline and the water’s surface.
Willis Creek Park Equestrian Trail
Willis Creek Park in Granger is a great place for equestrian riding. The park’s equestrian trails are located around Granger Lake and feature open pastures and grassy trails for horses. The trails are also open to hikers and cyclists. Visitors must obtain a coggins certificate before riding. The park also has primitive camping available for visitors.
Willis Creek Park Equestrian Trail is open to all types of riders, from novice to advanced. The trails are mostly flat with a few dips and are covered in black prairie land. Most of the trails are barefoot, and some are marked with mowed paths in wide open fields. The Yellow Trail runs near the Willis Creek, which feeds the Granger Lake.
Horses must be on a leash when riding the trails. Dogs are welcome at the park, but dogs must be on a leash. AT&T cell phone reception is good. Hunting is allowed on the Wildlife Management Area, but not on the park or equestrian trail. Be aware that the park may close on designated hunting days. Friendship Park
The Friendship Park in Granger, Texas is a park with a natural setting. This park is set in the gently rolling hills of the Texas Blackland Prairie and features exceptional spring wildflowers. This park is only fifteen miles from Taylor and forty miles from Austin. You can find it at 22350 FM971 in Granger.
Located at the north end of Granger Dam, this day-use park has 45 covered picnic tables and a grill near the water. Parking is free during the week, but is $3 per car on the weekends. The park is open April 1 through September 30. The Friendship Park has many amenities, including a fishing dock and boat ramp.
