Cancer Survivors’ Garden

Chicago’s Cancer Survivors’ Garden is a special place, built with $1 million donated by Richard A. Bloch, a co-founder of H&R Block. The garden is composed of three levels, with a large open plaza and an herb garden flanking the entrance. There are also pergolas that provide a quiet place to reflect.

The garden features perennial plants and a walkway with 16 plaques featuring inspirational quotes and resources for cancer patients. Visitors can enjoy the garden year-round and even rent a section for a special event. It is a unique and touching space that is a must-see.

The entrance to the Cancer Survivors’ Garden is flanked by two 40-foot Corinthian columns salvaged from the 1905 Federal Building. The columns were designed by Henry Ives Cobb and are located on an axis with the classical columns in the Field Museum of Natural History. These four historic columns, which were submerged near Lake Michigan in 1983, were donated to the park by the Chicago Architecture Foundation.

Shedd Aquarium

If you are interested in marine life and enjoy viewing animals, the Shedd Aquarium is a must-see place in Chicago. The aquarium opened in 1930 and has a fascinating mix of 20th century architecture and marine life. Visitors can see thousands of aquatic creatures and marvel at the newest exhibits.
