Bratwurst Festival
The Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival is a celebration of bratwurst held annually in Bucyrus, Ohio. This town is known as the “Bratwurst Capital of the United States.” If you love bratwurst, you must attend this annual event.
The festival is open to the public and is free to attend. The festival is held the third weekend of August. It will feature 27 tons of bratwurst and other German-inspired foods. Activities include live entertainment, contests, free bratwurst tastings, and local family recipes.
The festival also features a full-service bicycle tour, a pancake breakfast at registration, and several awards. The ride will take you past scenic countryside and historic sites. The Bucyrus Tourism & Visitors Bureau will sponsor the ride. The event is free to attend, but you can purchase value packs of 10 or twenty tickets for a discounted rate.
The festival also has a pageant. The pageant queen for the Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival is Abigail Brocwell. However, she was thrown out for violating festival rules about representation and travel. She was photographed holding a cell phone and allegedly not wearing her “drindl,” a traditional German-Alpine dress that is worn for public appearances.
The Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival is an annual event that has been held every year since 1968. The three-day event features rides, food vendors, three parades, and live music. Each year a new queen is crowned on the first night of the festival.
Bratwursts are traditionally served raw or cooked. However, bratwursts can also be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated for several days. Bratwursts are served traditionally with sautuffded onions, cheese, and relish.
Golf Club of Bucyrus
If you want to play golf at a quality course, you should consider visiting the Golf Club of Bucyrus in Ohio. This course was once known as River Oaks Golf Course and was originally nine holes long. However, a redesign in 1992 added a second nine holes designed by famed architect Barry Serrafin. Today, this course has an 18-hole championship course.
The Golf Club of Bucyrus features a championship 18-hole golf course and clubhouse facilities. In addition to the 18-hole golf course, there are several facilities at the clubhouse for those looking to socialize and dine. In the clubhouse, guests can enjoy a full lunch menu and wine and beer from the Bogey Grill. There are also locker facilities for golfers.
Historic Copper Kettle Works
For more than 140 years, Bucyrus’ Historic Copper Kettle Works has been producing handmade copper items. The company started as an extension of a local hardware store and was run by two generations of the founder’s family. The company reopened in 2015 with the leadership of Steve Schifer. It’s located at 119 S. Walnut Street. In addition to the historic kettle works, visitors can tour the Edsel Car Collection & Auto Museum and stop by Mark’s Homemade Ice Cream.
A visit to the Picking Copper Factory, located near the historic Copper Kettle Works, allows visitors to experience the process of making copper. Visitors can see relics of a town hardware store, including an old rocking horse, and learn how copper is made. The building’s walls are blackened to showcase the process of creating copper. The museum’s collections include two pieces placed in the Smithsonian Institution.
Today, the Picking Company produces hand-hammered copper kettles. The company was founded in 1874 by Jacob Geiger and Daniel Picking, two local hardware store owners. The company trained local tinsmiths to turn copper. They produced apple butter kettles and other copper products, and soon eliminated the need to import kettles from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Today, the company also offers decorative pieces and custom projects.
While in Bucyrus, you should also check out the Crawford County Courthouse. This building was built in 1854 and was later expanded and renovated. It is now part of the Bucyrus Commercial Historic District. In addition to the city’s historic courthouse, there is a 1938 Restaurant located at the Hideaway Inn, serving farm-to-table cuisine.
Speak Easy
On the first Friday of every month, Speak Easy Bucyrus hosts a variety of activities for the community. These events include shopping, entertainment, food, games, and giveaways. There will be a live DJ on the night of the event and live music from local artists. All proceeds from the event benefit the nonprofit Bucyrus Legacy Fund of Projects, Inc.
