The Na Aina Kai Botanical Gardens is a beautiful spot. The name translates to “Lands by the Sea.” It’s located in Lihue, and you can get there by car. Take Wailapa Road to get there. Make sure you bring plenty of water, and don’t forget to bring a comfortable pair of walking shoes.

Na Pali Coast

Volcanoes National Park

There are many things to do in Volcano, Hawai’i, including hiking the Kilauea Iki Trail, visiting the Jaggar Museum and observing the latest scientific research on volcanoes. While in Volcano, you can also visit the Kilauea Visitor Center, which provides information on current lava flows and other information about the park. The park also offers a ranger-led tour.

Hiking the Puu Loa Petroglyphs Trail is another great option, but the walk is short and not as spectacular as other sites. To view the lava flow up close, most visitors drive an hour north to Kalapana. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of lava flowing into the ocean!

The Nahuku Lava Tube, also known as Thurston Lava Tube, is one of the most popular lava tubes in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The trailhead is located near the Kilauea Iki overlook. It’s a 600-foot hike to the lava tube. The best time to visit Nahuku is early morning or early evening, when it’s less crowded. Keep in mind that the lighting in the lava tube only turns on at 8pm daily, so you’ll want to bring a flashlight.

Another attraction that draws visitors to the park is the lava light phenomenon. This is a mystical sight to watch, as lava light illuminates the vog surrounding the crater. The National Park Service has a timelapse video available to view the lava light phenomenon.

A tour of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park should not take up more than one full day. A half-day visit is sufficient to view the volcanoes in the morning. However, if you’re not a morning person, the park is best visited in the evening.
