Hiking

Rock Lake is an undeveloped lake that is surrounded by steep talus slopes and the massive Ojibway Peak. The lake is a pleasant temperature, and the area has little in the way of mosquitoes.

The Rock Lake trail begins at National Forest Development Road 150A. You’ll follow a road that was once used for mining, crossing a brook and eventually reaching Rock Meadows. Here you’ll find a small pond, marshy areas, and two rustic cabins. You’ll also get to view wildlife.

Rock Lake is a natural impoundment that sits high above the timberline. It has little development and is only a mile wide in some places. In 1903, Willis Anson Evans moved to Rock Lake and built a Cliff House hotel near the lake outlet. The hotel was popular with locals, and soon it was being used by avid anglers.

As the weather warms up, fish become more active. Most species can be found in the clearer water from mid-lake to the dam. Crankbaits and plastic worms are ideal for catching these fish. These baits work well in eight to fifteen feet of water.
