Crabtree Falls

Crabtree Falls is the highest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River. It’s a beautiful 70-foot cascade, and its creek spills over a rock face into a deep pool below. The waterfall is surrounded by scenic hardwood forests and rolling hills, and is accessible via a scenic trail.

To get to the waterfall, walk a short way down a wide gravel trail to the trail junction, which is marked by a sign. From here, the trail winds down steep stone steps and through two switchbacks. At the bottom, the waterfall is visible from a bridge with benches. From there, you can follow other little paths and get closer to the misty pool underneath the waterfall.

Hiking the Crabtree Falls trail is an excellent way to get a better view of the waterfall. The trail is easy, although there are a few steep sections. In the winter, the trail is especially narrow. In the spring, however, the trail becomes smoother and flatter. Once you’ve finished your hike, you’ll see the falls and walk across a wooden bridge.

The first quarter mile is flat and easy, with the steepest part of the hike occurring just past the falls. From here, the trail follows a drier wooded area until you reach a stairway leading to a campsite. The official loop trail continues on to the left and travels through mixed hardwood forests.
