Activities for people of all ages

In 1874, Chisago City residents voted to form a Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church. The congregation grew and the church needed more space. The congregation moved across Old Towne Road and built a larger building in 1875. The church also purchased the Chisago County Court House and remodeled it to serve its growing congregation. It was eventually enlarged to accommodate 600 people.

Once the County Seat, this area was also home to a variety of commercial interests. However, due to changes in transportation patterns and fires, it was left behind.

Historical significance

In the early 1850s, Swedish settlers settled in the area, where the Chippewa Indians named the region KichiSaga, meaning “fair and lovely waters.” The Swedish settlers organized a Lutheran congregation of 100 members on May 12, 1854, and built a church and school on the town’s main street.

Chisago City is located between Green Lake and Chisago Lake. It is part of the Chisago Lakes region and is accessible by U.S. Highway 8. In addition, the city is home to the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church, which dates back to the mid-1850s. In 1993, the church was featured in the film “Grumpy Old Men.”

Chisago City is located just northeast of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area. It was established in 1851, seven years before the state of Minnesota was created. The county seat was originally located in Taylors Falls, but in 1865 it moved to Chisago City. Later, it was moved to Center City.

Chisago City is home to approximately 3,875 people of voting age. The male to female population ratio is 49:52. One-quarter of the population is 65 years old or older. The unemployment rate is 4.0%. The majority of residents are employed and live in private homes.
