Twin Lakes State Park
The campground at Twin Lakes State Park is a great place for camping and hiking. The park also has flush toilets, showers, and a sanitation dump station. There’s also a playground and boat ramp.

Richard Proenneke Cabin

Proenneke loved to explore the area, using his binoculars to spot wildlife high in the mountains. You can even walk to his favorite spot, Teetering Rock, for a stunning view of the Twin Lakes.
The Richard Proenneke Cabin, places to see in Twin Lake, is an eloquent example of the rugged, self-sufficient lifestyle of a man who lived in the wilderness for thirty years. The cabin was built by a lone man who had no modern conveniences. He maintained relationships with park rangers and neighbors. Throughout his time at the cabin, Proenneke chronicled his life, annotating calendars and maps with his observations.
During WWII, Dick Proenneke served in the Navy. After the war, he moved to the region and became a respected mechanic. He earned his reputation as a hard-working, intelligent man. In 1968, he decided to stay permanently in the area. He enjoyed hiking, fishing, and hunting and carved out a life here. He lived in Twin Lakes from 1968 until his death in 2003.
The Richard Proenneke Cabin, places to see in Twin Lake is located on the southern shore of Upper Twin Lake. The cabin was built by Proenneke and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is open for visitors from late May to September.

Windsong Wilderness Retreat
Windsong Wilderness Retreat is tucked away in the Twin Lakes, and offers a retreat to anyone seeking peace and quiet, fishing, and wildlife viewing. The private cabins are available for rent by individuals or groups of up to four guests. The retreat is also home to Richard Proenneke, author of One Man’s Wilderness. Gary Titus, who manages the property, welcomes guests.
Windsong Wilderness Retreat is tucked away on the northern shore of Upper Twin Lake, a glacier-fed lake that connects to a connected stream. Windsong Wilderness Retreat is nestled in a roadless wilderness. Guests arrive by small plane on the upper end of Twin Lake. Wheeled aircraft are unable to land in the area, so float planes are necessary. The trip takes about 30 minutes.
Air taxi services are available from Anchorage and other nearby cities to the Twin Lakes area. In the summer, these flights require floats to land at the lakes, and in winter, wheeled planes are required. The cost of the air taxi varies based on the type of plane and the number of passengers.
