Bernheim Arboretum
The Bernheim Arboretum in Shepherdsville is home to several pieces of art, including the “Untitled” by Paul Fields, an abstract form sculpted in stone. Fields, the first Artist in Residence at Bernheim, created the piece on site. He was an internationally recognized sculptor whose work focuses on the abstraction of natural forms. He inspired many other sculptors to work in stone. The piece was dedicated to Fields’ mother and is located on the Lake Nevin Loop Trail.
The Bernheim Arboretum is open seven days a week from early morning to close, except for December 25 and January 1 (when the arboretum is closed). The Visitor Center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Daily admission costs $10 for non-members, while members pay nothing.
The Earth Measure exhibit invites visitors to explore the earth’s fundamental geometric shapes and invites discovery by people of all ages. It also invites visitors to tune into the acoustic ecology to capture the sounds of seasonal wildlife. The installation is both simple and complex, monumental and graceful, fulfilling the deepest intentions of its creator Isaac Wolfe Bernheim.
Bernheim is a nonprofit organization that serves more than a quarter million visitors each year. It offers public programs and school programs, and a variety of horticultural research projects. Staff members conduct natural area and horticultural research projects on a regular basis, and are often in collaboration with regional universities.
Four Roses bourbon distillery
There are many reasons to visit the Four Roses Bourbon Distillery in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. Slow Poke Farm is open to the public during the fall and offers pumpkins, hayrides, a hay maze, and a newly expanded children’s playground. It is also a working farm, raising corn, soybeans, and vegetables. It is also a great place to take field trips.
Another popular distillery in Shepherdsville is the Jim Beam American Stillhouse. This distillery is just 20 miles south of Louisville. The tour features interactive exhibits and a two-story tasting room. The distillery also has a gift shop and a scenic grounds.
Heritage Hill golf course
