Los Banos is an exciting city with a lot of attractions. It’s a first-class municipality in Laguna and officially known as the Municipality of Los Baos. It has a population of 115,353 people. It has several places of interest, including the Yamashita Shrine, Hot City Barbeque & Bistro, Tony’s Rendezvous, Los Banos Creek Reservoir, and Los Banos Creek Reservoir.
Hot City Barbeque & Bistro
Located at 1313 S 6th Street in downtown Los Banos, Hot City Barbeque & Bistro is a great place to go for barbecue. The restaurant offers family packs and huge portions of grilled food. It also has outdoor seating so you can enjoy the weather. The restaurant is a women-owned business.
The location is also convenient as it’s right off of the freeway. This Los Banos eatery is a popular destination on weekends. The food is tasty and well-cooked, and the sides are good. There is good ice cream, and the pulled pork was delicious. We also enjoyed the homemade potato salad and the beans.
Tony’s Rendezvous
When you’re looking for great places to drink in Los Banos, you can’t go wrong with Tony’s Rendezvous. This pub serves excellent beer and has a 4.2 Google rating. It’s also family friendly and has outdoor seating.
Yamashita Shrine
One of the places to visit in Los Banos is the Homma – Yamashita Shrine. This is an important place to visit, especially if you are interested in the Japanese history and culture. It is located inside the University of the Philippines Los Banos campus. During World War II, this area was home to a Japanese College of Agriculture. The Japanese burned down the entire campus after the American liberation and executed many of the students.
This shrine is also home to the Yamashita Treasure, a shrine that was named after a Japanese wartime military governor of the archipelago. This shrine is protected by a guardian called Nicanor Brun, the grandson of an anti-Japanese resistance fighter.
There is also a memorial to the Japanese war dead in the local cemetery. Visitors can pay their respects to the Japanese soldiers who died in the Battle of Muntinlupa. The cemetery also houses the graves of executed Japanese soldiers. You can get there by taking a DLTB or HM Transport bus from Cubao, Taft Avenue, or EDSA. You will have to follow the signboards that say “Sta. Cruz.” A green star express bus will drop you off near the new Los Banos municipal hall. Once there, you can board a tricycle to get to the shrine.
Los Banos is also home to the National Arts Center, which is located at the foot of Mount Makiling. This cultural center is also home to the Philippine High School for the Arts, which is a special school for young artist scholars. The town also has sixteen daycare schools, which are run by the local government and the DSWD.
Los Banos Creek Reservoir
The Los Banos Creek Reservoir is a great place for fishing. The Department of Fish & Game stocks this lake with a variety of fish including crappie, bluegill, and trout. Los Banos Creek Reservoir also features 14 undeveloped camping areas for campers. There are also several hiking trails and educational opportunities.
During the summer, the reservoir’s bass, bluegill, and crappie move to deeper water. Large chunks of rock in the reservoir attract predatory fish. They provide a great hiding place and a natural habitat for their prey. The lake also has a small creek inlet that offers great fishing opportunities.
Los Banos Creek Reservoir also offers camping at its Los Banos Campground. The campground contains 20 primitive campsites, but it is not recommended for people who plan to pull a trailer. There are water hookups, but the lot is not wide enough to accommodate trailers.
Los Banos Fitness & Racquet Club
The Los Banos Fitness & Racque Club is a public gym located in the town of Los Banos, California. Located on Racquet Club Drive, it is close to the Elena Talbott Park and Los Banos Cinemas. Los Banos is a city in the San Joaquin Valley, in Merced County.
