Laporte’s Main Street district
If you’re looking for a little history, you may want to check out the Downtown Laporte Historic District. This national historic district is comprised of 70 contributing buildings in the center of the business district of LaPorte, Indiana. Many of the buildings date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Laporte’s lavender farm
Laporte’s lavender farm is a multi-generational family business that has been growing lavender since 1995. The Kings offer a variety of lavender products and services. The farm also offers online sales year-round. The Kings also participate in the South Bend Farmers Market. In June, they are holding a ‘You Pick’ lavender open house.
Laporte’s San Jacinto Museum of History
The Battle of San Jacinto is a major historical event in Texas and a key moment in the state’s history. It ended the Texas Revolution and established the Republic of Texas from Mexico. Located in Laporte, Texas, the San Jacinto Monument tells the story of the battle. It also features an observation deck, museum, and theater.
Visitors can take a five-story elevator ride up to the observation deck and see the 220-ton Lone Star of Texas. The museum’s theater has a 35-minute film called Texas Forever! The Battle of San Jacinto, which is highly recommended.
The building is a fine example of Art Deco architecture. It was designed by Alfred C. Finn and Robert J. Cummins. It was constructed by the Warren S. Bellows Construction Company, which was based in Houston and Dallas. The building was designated as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
The San Jacinto Museum of History Association operates the museum in La Porte, Texas. It’s open to the public on Saturdays from 10 am to four pm. The museum also holds reenactments of the battle of San Jacinto, with hundreds of history reenactors, horses, and pyrotechnics.
Visitors can see artifacts from the French and Spanish colonies, as well as firearms used by pioneers and Spanish explorers. A collection of religious art and maps of the region is also on display. Visitors can also see tools used to work land and herd cattle.
