At Get Pickin, you can find piles of rocks of all sizes. Rock picking bags cost $10 and have the Get Pickin logo imprinted on the front. A supplier organizes the rocks into sizes so that visitors can pick the best ones. The rocks are collected from local pits, and they are unpolished and dirty. Once you finish picking, you can return them to their new owners.
Frank Lloyd Wright designed the R. W. Lindholm Service Station
A gas station designed by Frank Lloyd Wright stands in Cloquet, Minnesota, a small town that was formerly known for its 1918 great Cloquet Fire. Located along the St. Louis River, the station is now owned by the grandson of the late architect. Though the station opened nearly 60 years ago, it still serves its former customers.
Originally a two-story gas station, the R. W. Lindholm Service Station opened its doors in October 1958. It was designed by Wright and was the only one of his buildings to be built in Minnesota. Wright used copper, wood, and glass in the building’s exterior and interior. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
The interior of the station features an angular, glass, and concrete design. The roof is made of copper and is thirty-two feet high. The building also features a thin pylon sign and observation lounge. The original Lindholm Service Station incorporated the principles of Wright’s prototypical design. Its design also features skylights in the service area, slanted ceramic tile walls, radiant heat, and decorative planters.
A Frank Lloyd Wright-designed gas station is now open in Cloquet. The family that owns it is restoring the structure after 30 years of neglect. Now, a celebration will take place at the R. W. Lindholm Service Station, which opened in 1958.
