Fountain Creek Regional Park

Fountain Creek Regional Park and Nature Center are located in Fountain, El Paso County, Colorado. It is close to Colorado Springs. It is a great place to hike, bike, and explore nature. Fountain Creek is home to wildlife and is considered a National Natural Landmark. It is open daily and free to the public.

There are several trails in the park, including a nature trail that is only accessible by foot. The trail crosses wetlands and is home to numerous species of birds. Red-winged blackbirds make their homes on cattails, and white pelicans and snowy egrets use the wetlands as a resting place. Visitors can also view Pikes Peak from several points in the park.

Another option for hiking in Fountain Creek Regional Park is to take the Front Range Trail. This dirt trail is about three miles long. There is a trail sign pointing the way. This trail crosses Fountain Creek. After the trail, you’ll come to an intersection. At this intersection, you’ll be greeted by a view of the flood plain and can watch for Belted Kingfisher nesting nearby.

The Fountain Creek Regional Trail connects the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail and Fountain Creek Regional Park. The trail starts near the El Pomar Youth Sports Complex and runs parallel to the creek. From there, the trail turns into an easy doubletrack dirt trail. The trail ends near the access road to I-25 in Fountain.
