The Elmwood neighborhood has been revitalized with new restaurants and boutiques. Previously, Trattoria La Siciliana, now known for its authentic Italian fare, is now home to KaoKao Grill. The restaurant is run by the same owners as Huangcheng Noodles and offers char siuu pork and Applewood-smoked chicken. Also in the neighborhood, the Niku and Dumpling Time team have opened Rosemary and Pine. Chef Dustin Falcon will head this new restaurant. While the menu is centered on Asian food, the restaurant’s East Coast roots will also be prominently displayed in the menu.
Baltimore Canyon
If you’re looking for places to go in Larkspur, California, you may want to visit the 193-acre Baltimore Canyon Open Space Preserve. This place is situated at the headwaters of Larkspur Creek and is home to mixed hardwood and second-growth redwood forest. It also protects one of the prettiest canyons in the North Bay. Larkspur Creek usually has only minimal flows year-round, but it is a major source of water for local wildlife and supports a variety of fish species, including steelhead trout.
There are several hiking trails that can take you up and down the Baltimore Canyon. These trails wind through the canyon and eventually lead to the 30-foot-high Dawn Falls. The waterfall is best accessed during winter and early spring. Trails are not always open and may be closed due to recent storms.

The Baltimore Canyon Dawn Falls Trail begins at Madrone Avenue and meanders along Larkspur Creek. The trail is mostly flat with some gentle undulations, and it passes among redwood trees. At a large rock, the trail veers to the left. Continuing along this path will require hiking up another steep section.
Remillard’s Brickyard Kiln
A trip to Remillard’s Brickyard Kiln in downtown Larkspur will take you back to the 19th century, when the brickmaking facility was one of the largest in the country. In addition to being a historic landmark, the brickyard was responsible for rebuilding San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake. The brickyard still stands in the same location, but has undergone some changes over the years.
The Remillard family owned the brick company for over four decades. Their father, Peter, was from Canada and came to the United States following the Gold Rush. He learned brick-making skills in Boston and came to California in 1854. He then worked as a miner to earn money and brought his two brothers to the country.
The bricks that came out of the kiln were uneven, ranging from over-fired to under-fired. The kiln was not a permanent structure and had to be rebuilt after every firing. This was convenient because the bricks could be used more quickly in construction sites.
The brickyard was once owned by the Remillard Brick Company, which had more than twenty-five buildings on the site. It served as the major brick supplier for the Pacific coast. It also supplied brick for the rebuilding of San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake. The brickyard was a booming business for years and was the largest brick maker in the state. Ultimately, the brickyard closed in 1915.
The town’s preservation efforts have led to the inclusion of the historic district in the National Register of Historic Places. This recognition is important because it provides incentives to property owners and encourages community preservation efforts. Some of the buildings are even designated with plaques listing their unique characteristics.
Farmshop Marin
Farmshop Marin in Larkspur is a new concept restaurant owned by Kira Cunningham, who is originally from the Napa Valley. After studying English and Fine Art at UC Berkeley, she worked in art directing, publishing, and film & television in New York and LA before returning to the Napa Valley to start the shop. She chose to work with Los Angeles firm Commune Design to bring her vision to life.
Located in the Marin Country Mart, Farmshop Marin offers a new type of dining experience. Its minimalistic interior is designed to please all senses. The restaurant offers a 50-foot wooden bar, an open kitchen and pizza oven, and an expansive patio where diners can relax and eat.
Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park
If you are looking for a vacation spot near the Pikes Peak region, consider Yogi Bear’s Jellystone® Park in Larkspur, Colorado. This Sun Outdoors resort offers RV sites, cabin rentals, and even a water park! There are also on-site restaurants and activities such as geocaching and outdoor movies. You can also take advantage of the area’s hiking and hayspur trails, and drive about 60 miles to the top of Pikes Peak.
The park is larger than it appears, with over 500 RV spots and vacation rentals. The RV spots offer a cement pad, a picnic table, and a fire pit. You can even rent a cabin, complete with a kitchen and a living room. The park is themed after the character and Jellystone Park itself, with whimsical signage and streets named for the characters. It even shows old Yogi Bear cartoons in the mornings!
