Greyhound Tavern

After years of operating the Greyhound Tavern, its owners are ready to retire. One Holland Restaurant Group, which also owns Skyline Chili, LaRosa’s Pizzeria, First Watch, and Dunkin’ Donuts locations in Northern Kentucky, has purchased the restaurant. Gabe Wainscott and his parents bought the Fort Mitchell-based restaurant in the late 1980s. Wainscott has been a Fort Mitchell resident since his childhood. He began his career as an attorney at DBL Law in Crestview Hills and is now a partner in the One Holland Restaurant Group. The owners’ son, Gabe Wainscott, grew up in the Fort Mitchell-based establishment and will continue to run it.

Originally known as the Dixie Tea Room, the Greyhound Tavern opened in 1921. Its name was inspired by the owner’s brother, who was an established greyhound dog trainer in Florida. The location of the restaurant, which sits near the end of the Fort Mitchell streetcar line, contributed to the early success of the establishment. The restaurant serves a wide variety of American cuisine, including seafood, chops, steaks, and chicken. The menu includes sandwiches, appetizers, and entrees. Some of the highlights include rib-eye steak, country ham, blackened chicken Caesar wraps, and a variety of desserts. Gift certificates are available for special occasions and celebrations.

In addition to offering a diverse menu, the Greyhound Tavern is also known for its family-friendly atmosphere and traditional Southern comfort food. The menu features hearty dinners made from fresh ingredients, and is a great choice for families. Whether you’re looking for a casual meal with the family or a romantic dinner for two, The Greyhound Tavern in Fort Mitchell is the place to go.

Wainscott spent his youth working at family restaurants with his father, Butch Wainscott. The Wainscott family owns The Greyhound Tavern in Fort Mitchell and the Tousey House Tavern in Burlington, KY. In addition to owning these businesses, Wainscott is also expanding his family’s restaurant legacy in Northern Kentucky with Libby’s Southern Comfort, a southern-style eatery at 35 W. Eightth St. in Covington.
