It has a pond

The city of Independence recently installed a new fountain for the Elmwood Park pond, offering both aesthetic and ecological benefits. The old fountain was 12 years old and was experiencing maintenance problems. The city reached out to the Kiwanis Club of Independence for assistance. The Kiwanis Club agreed to donate funds for the fountain, which was completed before the coronavirus pandemic struck the United States.

There are a few historical structures located within Elmwood Park. The former Yankee Pedlar, built in 1882, has undergone numerous changes over the years. It was later converted into an inn by Eugene Tambori. The park also has Crosier Field (LOCATION), which was originally called Soldiers’ Field. On Armistice Day 1939, it was renamed Crosier Field, in honor of William Crosier, a Spanish American War veteran and a park superintendent from 1918 to 1933.

Another attraction in Elmwood Park is the Trailside Museum, located in an 1870s Victorian mansion. This museum is free to visit, and features interactive exhibits that explore the history of the park and surrounding area. It is located near Elmwood Park, just five minutes west of the city. The museum was established in 1931, and features exhibits on the natural history of the Des Plaines River as well as native animals in terrariums.

The daybrook, a wild stream, was diverted underground in 1926 after causing problems in the western part of the city.
