The first time I was introduced to the concept of deep sea salt scrub was while looking for some fresh produce to take home for dinner. I am from a somewhat rural area and had never heard of this approach to cooking. As a matter of fact, my mother had tried making them with fruit and left some on the counter for the next day. She thought it was a great idea but did not have any herbs handy to use to prepare the dish properly.

When I learned more about salts Worldwide, and how they could be used to make fresh foods, I was intrigued. Salt and fresh ingredients worked wonderfully together to bring out the flavor in foods. I was very interested in learning how to create a salt scrub for my own home.

The way I learned to prepare a salt scrub was to use a brine made from sea salt and a bay leaf extract from around the world. To complete the recipe, I would mix in herbs such as basil, oregano, dill, parsley, sage, tarragon, etc.

I placed the brine, fresh fruits and vegetables in an airtight container and let them sit for an entire week. During that time I would vacuum seal the container, store it in the refrigerator and have fresh food ready to serve for dinner that night. This was great for saving money as well as adding a little flair to the table.

I actually managed to put all of my fresh fruits in the refrigerator, and then later find the brine and mix it with the fruits to create a perfect combination of sweet and salty. I was amazed at how the mixture worked for me. It definitely did work wonders when preparing fresh food for dinner.

After using this method, I wanted to try other foods, and found that I could mix in ingredients such as garlic, ginger, Cayenne pepper, shallots, mint leaves, lemon grass, lemon balm, sesame seeds, allspice, garlic powder, garam masala, lemon peel, honey, cinnamon, black pepper, black sesame seeds, and asafetida to enhance the flavors. With many more combinations possible, I had a wide variety of tasty dishes to prepare in the kitchen. After learning more about the various spices available, I decided to try cooking with ginger instead of garlic.

My favorite way to use ginger was to freeze the fresh ginger and let it thaw out and use as a seasoning. It added such a wonderful flavor to a variety of dishes and tasted so yummy. I loved using it in Asian dishes, especially stir fries.

With fresh vegetables and fruits, I found that there were whole spice blends which I used to create delicious dishes. I had never tried apple cider vinegar and thyme together before, but have since done so with some success.

When preparing a dinner buffet at my house, I often added lots of the above spices to add more flavorful and refreshing flavors to my dishes. For instance, I mixed together a few whole spice blends, bay leaves, and some spices to create a combination to use with Chinese green beans. They were super yummy and smelled amazing.

I still enjoy making salt scrub to use as a touch up on dinners. I still enjoy preparing them and using fresh herbs and fresh vegetables. I like how easy it is to make and the results are so great.

So if you are interested in trying salt scrub, try this recipe. You will be surprised at how simple it is to make, and can be prepared quickly.
