Stakeholder interviews with business owners, village officials, and other stakeholders have helped us better understand the issues facing the town. In these interviews, we learned that a majority of businesses have been in the Village for 15 or more years, while only a small number of businesses are new. In addition to this, a survey of Village residents and business owners has helped us identify challenges that new businesses face.

The Chemung Canal and the Chemung Railroad have contributed to the economic development of the town. In the past, the town was also connected to the New York and Erie railroad. This development provided an excellent transportation system and allowed the town to grow.
