Pumpkinvine Nature Trail

The Pumpkinvine Nature Trail is a 17-mile path that connects Goshen, Middlebury, and Shipshewana. This scenic route traverses rural farmland and urban areas. It also passes through the third largest Amish community in the United States. The trail is asphalt, except for the portion that runs from County Road 28 northeast of Goshen to State Road 4. The trail was once a part of the old Penn Central railroad, called the Pumpkinvine for its twisted path. However, it hasn’t been in use since the early 1980s. The trail was not officially created until 1992, when the Friends of Pumpkinvine Nature Trail came together. They raised over $100,000 by selling plaques to donors and secured a bank loan for the trail’s development.

The Pumpkinvine Nature Trail is a walking and biking trail through the rural countryside of northern Indiana. The trail is well-maintained and includes a variety of scenic stops.
