New Port Richey was an express and freight shipping point for the Seaboard railway company. This railroad line ran between New Port Richey and Elfers, and its last stop was Elfers, just two miles south. In fact, the Seaboard railway station was closed on April 25, 1943. Since then, workers began digging up the rails and ties that once served it. The railroad company, which had a branch that ran between Elfers and New Port Richey, decided to abandon this section of the line. Consequently, the depot will be put up for sale.
