Despite being smaller than many other American cities, Cresco offers many unique places and experiences to explore. There are several attractions and things to do while in Cresco, including The Kellow House and The Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame. You can also explore the Cresco Open Air Market, Statues of Howard County, and The Howard County Museum.

The Kellow House

The Kellow House is a historic building located in Cresco, Iowa. The house was built in 1880 by George Kellow, a native of Cornwall, England, and is now a museum. It is a Second Empire style structure with three porches and a mansard roof. The house was purchased by the Howard County Historical Society in 1969, and today is used as a museum and resource center for the historical society.

The Kellow House was built in 1880 and is a great example of Second Empire style homes. It features period furnishings including family heirlooms. The building is open to the public for tours by appointment. The Kellow House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 and all repairs must meet National Register regulations.

Ellen Church, a native of Cresco, is an American businesswoman and inventor of the airline attendant profession. The airport in Cresco is named in her honor. Cresco is just 10 miles north of the Minnesota/Iowa border and has a population of just over four thousand. It has a tree-lined downtown, with a big county courthouse and historic buildings.

The Cresco Open Air Market

In addition to the traditional food vendors, the open air market also welcomes artists and crafters, as well as farmers. Artists are encouraged to sell their wares, including homemade soaps and floral arrangements. Homemade jewelry vendors are also welcomed.

The open air market is held in Beadle Park every Thursday from 3 to 6 pm. During the summer, the market moves inside of Dollar Fresh on the west side of Cresco. It features crafts, food, and live music. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon.

For outdoor fun, the town is home to a picturesque park with picnic shelters. For those who prefer a more indoor experience, the Cresco Theatre and Opera House is a great place to spend the evening. This landmark has a century-old history and offers live performances.

The town of Cresco is located in the county of Howard County. Its population is just under 4,000. It is the largest town in Howard County and is home to companies like Featherlite Trailers, the nation’s leading aluminum trailer manufacturer. Other companies that are based in Cresco include Bethany Housewares and the Donaldson Company.

Cresco Labs has made two key acquisitions this year in Pennsylvania. The first, Laurel Harvest, brings in 52,000 square feet of indoor grow space, and the second, Cure Penn, adds three high-performing dispensaries in the state. The transaction is valued at $213 million and gives Cresco eight dispensaries in the state. It also includes additional cultivation and additional retail locations.

The Statues of Howard County

The Statues of Howard County are a popular attraction in Cresco, Iowa. These bronze statues, located around the community, add a little extra zing to the steps of visitors and residents alike. The sculptures, set in a picturesque park, are a result of an extensive community effort. Local businesses and masonry companies donated the statue bases. Local auto body painters supplied the protective coating.

Located along the Upper Iowa River in northeast Iowa, Howard County is less than an hour from the Mississippi River. Highlights of this charming community include the boyhood home of Dr. Norman Borlaug, the new 40-foot Mural, and the Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame.

In 1876, the courthouse in Cresco was burned, destroying many of the county records, including county records. The fire was discovered during Thanksgiving night and was centered in the second floor courtroom. Fortunately, county offices were able to remove most of their records before the fire spread to the rest of the building.

In the 1800s, the town was on a railroad line. Today, the town is home to a restored Milwaukee Road FP7 diesel engine, known as the Heritage Train. The train can be seen in Beadle Park, which is located on Highway 9 in the town center. In addition to being a historic landmark, Cresco is also the headquarters of Featherlite Trailers.

Another highlight of Cresco is the Mighty Howard County Fair. This five-day event is a great time to get together with friends and neighbors. The fair offers free and inexpensive entertainment, food vendors, and educational activities. It also features the famous Evans United Shows on the midway.
