Storebought face masks are often expensive, use harmful chemicals, and sometimes just don’t work! Rather than heading to the drugstore to try out a new product, how about peeking in the kitchen first? Here are some great, natural solutions for different skin types.

For Dry Skin… Avocado and Olive Oil

1. Mash ½ ripe avocado and combine with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. (Make sure the avocado really is ripe, or it won’t have the same moisturizing properties.)

2. Apply the mixture to your face and leave it there for 15 minutes or until the mask is completely dry.

3. Then, gently rinse the mask off with warm water, making sure not to scrub too vigorously or irritate your skin in any way.

4. Repeat weekly.

For Clogged Pores… Egg Whites

1. Simply whip 1-2 egg whites with a fork or whisk and use your fingers to gently coat your face.

2. Apply 2 layers of egg whites, and 3 in trouble spots like the nose and chin.

3. Leave this mask on for 30 minutes, then rinse off with warm water.

4. Repeat weekly.

For Acne Prone Skin… Honey and Cinnamon

1. Mix 3 tablespoons honey with ½ teaspoon cinnamon and gently apply to your face.

2. Leave this mask on for 10-30 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

3. This doesn’t have the same drying properties as egg whites, so it can be repeated 2 to 3 times a week, as needed.

Play with each of these natural face mask recipes until you find which variation works best for your skin type. For example, aloe vera can be added to different masks for sensitive skin, adding yogurt can be used to add extra moisture, and honey’s antibacterial properties make it a great addition to most face masks. Don’t be afraid to experiment!
