Are you looking for some fun sweets to eat with your lil sweetie, but want a more natural, organic way to chow down? Here are some great recipes to make with your baby that are easy and fun to make, so long as you don’t mind getting your hands dirty. Be sure not to read this to your little one, sometimes organic ingredients scare off children. Please assume that ALL INGREDIENTS ARE ORGANIC.

Banana Graham Cracker

This is a lot of fun to make, but be prepared to get your fingers covered in peanut butter. Also if your child has issues with patience you might want to make them yourself and have them for dessert or you can skip the fifth step and have fun with your peanut butter monster. You will need 2 full graham crackers, 1 banana sliced in half, 1 cup of peanut butter, and 1 tablespoon of brown sugar. First, take the graham crackers and put them on a cutting board. Grab your your rolling pin and start crushing the crackers until it because a fine powder. Second, both halves of the banana will need to be completely covered in peanut butter. Spatula works best, but a butter knife is perfectly fine. Third, put the graham crackers and brown sugar in a mixing bowl, stir until mixed thoroughly. Fourth, pour the mixture back on the cutting board and roll both halves of the banana until covered. Fifth, use the freezer and put the bananas inside for about an hour or so.

Brown Sugar Berries

This is a fast, simple treat. Fun for every one in your family to make. I like to make it a group treat. Just remember the brown sugar will cover your fingers so be ready to have a family clean up crew. You will need 1 bowl of washed fruit, a small cup/bowl full of brown sugar, a small cup/bowl of water, and clean hands. First, spread out the bowls and cups on the table so it is in every ones reach. Second, grab some fruit and dip it in the water. Third, roll it around in the brown sugar. Fourth, stick it in your mouth and enjoy! Remember eating with your hands as a family, promotes togetherness. The clean up process id also a perfect learning opportunity. Its all about having fun, but staying healthy is a huge part of life, so remember to get that across to your lil one.

Toothpickcicles

Toothpick fruit popcicles, a sweet and cheap way to make icy treats. This is a recipe that requires some freezer time, so please read all instructions before proceeding to make with your child. If making these become a regular thing, be sure to go to your local dollar store and get an ice tray just for the treats. You will need yours or their favorite fruit juice, an empty ice cube tray, enough toothpicks for each slot, and plastic film big enough to fit over the tray. First, take the tray and put it on the counter. Second, pour your juice, carefully, into each slot of the tray. Third, place the plastic film tightly over the tray. Fourth, put toothpicks into the center of each slot of the tray. Fifth, grab the tray and put it into the freezer overnight, to be sure they freeze. It is best to make them in the morning so after dinner they will be ready to eat. After the sweets are gone be sure to clean the tray before making more.

Sandwich Bag Ice Cream

Ever tried to make soft serve ice cream with one of those crank machines? Tiring, huh? Well here is a perfect way to make ice cream that only take about 10 minutes and your kids can do it too. Let your child do all the shaking, perfect way to strengthen their muscles and gives yours a break. You will need 1 gallon zip lock bag, enough ice to fill up half of the gallon bag, 1 pint size zip lock bag, 1 half of a teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 cup of half and half, 1 half of a cup of sea salt, and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar. First, take the gallon bag, place the ice inside, and the sea salt. Second, place the half and half, vanilla extract, and brown sugar inside of the pint size bag. Seal the bag , be sure there is some space left inside. Third, put the pint size bag inside the gallon bag and seal the gallon bag. Fourth, shake the bags for about five minutes or until the pint size bag becomes frothy like soft soft serve. Fifth, open the bags and take the small bag out. Put whatever you like as a topping, nuts are my favorite.  Sixth, get a spoon and eat it straight out of the bag! If they don’t finish it just zip it up, stick it in the freezer and save it for later. Easy clean up and perfect for on the go.

Smothie Surprise

Love surprises? Who doesn’t? So the surprise in this smoothie is more for you, the parent, as it has fruits and vegetables in it, but they don’t need to know that. Perfect for those picky eaters who will not touch veggies because they look and taste weird. My baby loves this one because all their favorites are inside and the orange and green is magic that makes him grow taller. You will need a blender of course, 1 cup of their favorite fruit juice, 2 cups of their favorite fruits (chopped), 1 sliced banana, 1 tablespoon of carrot juice, 1 tablespoon of spinach juice or some other leafy green, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 (8 ounce) yogurt cup, and 2 cups of ice. First, place the ice, juice, and yogurt in the blender and blend just break up the ice a bit. Second, put the banana and fruit and blend until mixed. Third, the carrot juice, spinach juice, and brown sugar. Blend until completely mixed and broken down. Fourth, check the taste. If you can still taste the veggies add brown sugar until the taste is satisfactory. Fifth, pour into a glass and know your sweetie is getting a natural and healthy treat. Is it not comforting to know that vitamins and minerals are actually going into their growing bodies. Now you don’t have to feel as guilty for getting that fast food for dinner last weekend. Keep up the good work, such a great parent! 🙂
We have made some tasty and magical drinks, treats and even got some pop cycles. Remember, when your child is helping you make anything in the kitchen, to have patience. Always smile and tell them when they are doing an amazing job. Children learn so more from positive reinforcement and if they mess up, and I guarantee you they will, just explain what they did wrong and help them correct the mistake. Soon enough they can make you treats. Cook them a meal and they will eat for a day, teach them to cook and they will eat for the rest of their lives.
