Music Therapy

We are affected by music in two different ways, directly and indirectly.  Directly is the effect of sounds upon organs and cells.  Music affects our emotions indirectly which influence numerous bodily functions, this is especially true in relaxing music.

Our auditory nerves possess more extensive connections than those of any other nerves in our body, and are more widely distributed.  There is hardly a single function of the body that is not affected by the tones of music.  Through investigation it has been shown that music affects circulation, nutrition, respiration, and digestion.  Most of our muscles (including the heart muscle) synchronize to the beat of music, without us ever thinking about it!  An example is in some music more specifically relaxing music that is designed for this very purpose, the beat is utilized to approximate the resting heart’s rhythm.  Also, listening to music of this style can actually help slow a heart that is beating too fast, also known as helping you relax!

Other processes begin to happen inside your body as you are more relaxed and your heart beats slower, your entire system start to function just a little bit more efficiently.  You begin to be able to concentrate and have a higher retention.  You also heal quicker, breathe deeper, and your elimination system is more efficient, this is the effects of truly unwinding and relaxing!
